I am in TX, if it matters. If I am in an accident, no matter the fault, if the other party has no insurance do I need to share my info with them?
I know I have to show the officer, but can I demand they do not share the info? If they do not have it can I be forced to share mine?
Hyundia from oppo already: :)

I’m in Houston.
Yes.
ETA: If they don’t have insurance, you should be calling the police as well.

Yup, they got a ticket and I was told sorry.... uninsured. BUT they got a copy of my DL and insurance. (not a copy, copy but the info).

You have their information too, right? File with your insurance, give them the asshole’s info, and then the insurance company might sue them.

NO, They had no DL or Insurance. I was told by APD to file uninsured. I have info but not verified by a DL or insurance card. He had neither. He read off what he knew.
Hell I know my provider but never knew my policy #.

No idea if you have to, but seems like you would.
Sorry about the crash, I hope your uninsured motorist insurance is good. I’m in Houston too and I’ve been told it is pretty important due to the higher than normal percentage of uninsured drivers (I see cars with expired registration all the time, and it seems likely they aren’t paying insurance on those either).

Here was my experience, also in TX. A guy sideswiped me on the highway and kept going. I chased him until he stopped. He was belligerent and drunk, and he drove off without giving me anything. Didn’t matter. I got his plate number, make, and model. Gave it to the cops, and they tracked him down. He had a suspended license and no insurance. Th detective called and gave me all the guy’s personal info, even his SS# (WTF, I’m not entitled to that, but whatever).
So long and short of it, the police got everything you need for your claim. Give the insurance company the info and let them do the work.

I see this all the time, cars with temp tags that have been expired for months here in Texas. See it all the time in San Antonio and the few times i went to Houston i saw it there too.

Who do you have, if I may ask? I used to be a claims adjuster, so just curious.

I had, at the time, a very close friend get into an accident in Houston. The guy gave her fake insurance information. She was pretty pissed about that. I can’t remember if she had uninsured motorist coverage or not. I think it might have been too expensive since she wasn’t an American; I remember her asking me for insurance recommendations and I told her that she should make sure she gets that.
